HANG ON TO YOUR HATS…

Well folks, it was an emotional one last week! We heard Alan tell a very personal and poignant story about his own life-changing experience, which touched a number of people in the room very directly. And then we heard stories of immense human courage and bravery, told with great sensitivity and emotion by Denzil who took us through some painful stories from the Manchester Arena bombing: and although there were tears in the audience, both speeches ended with bright notes of optimism and hope. Truly inspiring.

And then our Sarah lightened the mood with tales from the north-east, a tour of the accents and vocabulary of Sunderland, Newcastle, South Shields and Hartlepool. I think we all learned a few things!

We also welcomed two visitors for the first time and welcomed three back for their second time. It’s great that the club is attracting new visitors all the time and that our membership is steadily growing. You’ll be warmly welcomed at our next club meeting on Thursday 04 October at Beeston Hockey Club.

You can catch up with what we’ve been doing on the website, at our new Meetup group or on Twitter (@NottsSpeakers). Through the autumn we’re meeting (usually!) on the first and third Thursdays of the month, with special events from time to time: put us in the diary now!

It’s free to come along and see what’s going on, so RSVP on Meetup, use our contact form, or email us at NottsSpeakers at gmail dot com.

See you there…

SPEAKERS’ SUNDAY: One Gigayear at a Time, with Dr Julian Onions

Speakers’ Sunday at the Canalhouse on 30 September is now open for booking on Meetup and at Club evenings. The day is a great showcase for our speakers, our club and the ASC, with six speakers sharing stories with the audience. Please see Nathan or Callum to secure your space. As well as six speakers, we’ll have written evaluations, which will be given one-to-one afterwards.

I’m thrilled that our keynote guest speaker for the event is the University of Nottingham’s Dr Julian Onions of the School of Physics and Astronomy. Julian (@julianonions) will enthral, inspire and entertain with his beautiful talk, “Galaxies: One Gigayear at a Time.” Julian will explore what we know about galaxies, how they’re formed, and demonstrate the stunning beauty of the universe around us.

We guarantee we can improve your performance!

Whether you have to make a business presentation, speak at an important social occasion like a wedding, or anything involving public speaking, Nottingham Speakers Club can help you.

If you feel nervous at the thought of public speaking, you are far from alone! Most of our members joined to become more confident and have been amazed how quickly they overcame their nerves and started to enjoy the experience. They benefited from the friendly atmosphere, positive feedback and the chance to practise in front of a supportive group of people from a wide range of backgrounds. As you become more confident, you’ll also get the chance to give feedback to other people and to chair the meetings. To learn more go to What we do
